SWAG With a Purpose

SWAG gets a bad rap.

For many people, it means the "stuff we all get" at a conference: a pen, a tote bag, a T-shirt or another branded item that eventually gets tossed in a drawer. That’s not how we see it.

At Garment Graphics, SWAG stands for Strategic Ways to Achieve Goals. We believe branded products should have a purpose. They should help you accomplish something—not simply put your logo on another item.

Start With the Goal, Not the Product

The best SWAG starts with a simple question: What are you trying to achieve?

Maybe you’re trying to attract new students, customers, employees or members. Maybe you want to recognize your team, reward an accomplishment, strengthen your reputation or create a stronger connection with your community. Whatever the goal, it should come before the product.

Once we understand what you’re trying to accomplish, we can help determine whether a branded product makes sense and, if it does, what type of product will help get you there. Sometimes that means a useful welcome gift. Sometimes it’s quality apparel that brings a team together, a recognition gift that makes someone feel appreciated, an event display that gets your brand noticed or an everyday item that keeps your organization top of mind.

The product is the tool. The goal comes first.

SWAG Can Support the 5 R’s

For more than 30 years, we’ve helped schools, organizations and brands use branded products strategically across five key areas:

Recruitment — Make a strong first impression with prospective students, employees, members or customers.

Recognition — Show people that their contributions are noticed and appreciated.

Rewards — Celebrate milestones, accomplishments and the people who make them possible.

Reputation — Present your brand thoughtfully and consistently wherever it shows up.

Retention — Build connection and give people another reason to feel valued and engaged.

Not every project needs to accomplish all five. The point is to know what you want the item to do before you decide what to order.

The Product Matters, Too

A strategic approach doesn’t stop with the purpose of the item. We also think about quality, safety, sourcing and, most importantly, the people who will actually receive it.

We’re thoughtful about the products we source and work to identify options that are responsibly made, meet appropriate safety and quality standards, and make sense for the audience. After all, when your logo is on something, that product becomes part of your brand experience.

You want to feel good putting it in the hands of a student, employee, customer, member, donor, client or community partner. A well-chosen product can reflect the same care and thoughtfulness you put into the rest of your brand.

Make Your SWAG Work Harder

Being strategic doesn’t mean every branded item has to be complicated—or expensive. In many cases, it simply means making a smaller budget go further by choosing fewer, more purposeful products.

Before placing an order, ask yourself:

  • Who is this for?

  • What do we want it to accomplish?

  • Will they actually use it?

  • Does it represent our brand well?

If you can answer those questions, you’re already on your way to better SWAG.

And if you’re not sure where to start, that’s where we come in.

For more than 30 years, Garment Graphics has helped schools, organizations and brands find Strategic Ways to Achieve Goals through branded apparel, promotional products, displays, gifts and more.

Because SWAG shouldn’t just be something people get. It should be something that accomplishes your goal.
